5 Tips to Help You Reach Your Wellness Goals
Make a general game plan. Nothing too specific like, I will lose 20 lbs in one month. Make small goals for small changes. Small cumulative changes eventually create significant change. One way to accomplish this is by making a small weekly to do list of accomplishable goals. Ex. Workout 3 times a week for 30 min or go for a 20minute walk 2 times this week. Skipping an isle in the supermarket or a skipping store which triggers you to make poor food choices can even be a small goal. In most cases, setting difficult goals is generally a recipe for failure. Keep it simple to keep achieving goals which in turn provides a dopamine response/reward which helps keep you motivated to continue making positive changes.
Allow setbacks and forgive yourself. Think of reaching your goals as a game. Athletes don’t win every game, nor do they succeed because in every play. Baseball hitters strike out. , basketball players miss shots, soccer players miss goals. You get the picture? Even with their missteps, they keep moving until they succeed. You will have setbacks, it’s your choice to accept failure or learn from failure and strive for success.
Meal plan. Set yourself up for success. Make an easy weekly meal plan and have some healthy premade meals in the fridge that can be ready in a pinch to limit the chances of making poor food choices. Stress, anxiety and lack of planning can encourage poor eating habits and draw us toward sugary and fatty foods. Knowledge and preparation give you power and control to make better choices.
Get your friends on board and hold each other accountable! When people try to reach goals together, they have support and are more successful than people trying to do it alone. Accountability is a beautiful thing!
